The Bilbao Bizkaia Water Consortium held yesterday at the University of Deusto the gala of the third edition of its Lurra Bizkaia Sariak 2024 awards, which recognise people, entities and companies whose work stands out for its positive impact in the field of sustainability.
In the Agenda 21 category, for academic and/or informative projects aligned with municipal plans, the award went to Bilbao City Council for the incorporation of 85% of environmental clauses in contracting specifications. The award was collected by Nora Abete, Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Mobility and Sustainability.
n the Science category, which rewards research projects in the field of water, the award was presented to Fundació Comunitària Raimat Lleida and Acciona, for their joint project to return one million litres of water to nature. In this case, the award was collected by Elena de Carandini, President of the Foundation, and Paula Pérez, Acciona’s Innovation Manager.
The Ulysses project won the Ura award, for people or entities that contribute to protecting this resource. The project is a joint action between the Basque Government, the Data For Sciencie Foundation and AZTI and aims to combat plastic pollution in the oceans. Aitor Aldasoro, Deputy Minister for the Environment and Sustainability, Jorge Ballester, Director Data For Science and Rogelio Pozo, CEO AZTI, were present at the event and collected the award.
The Biodegradagarriak category, for high-value initiatives in the reuse of materials that degrade very slowly, was awarded to the company Birziplastik, which has a project for the integrated management of plastic waste that is transformed into new recycled raw materials. The award was presented to Mikel Llona, CEO of Birzkiplastik.
The award in the Climate Change category, which is given to environmentally efficient decisions, was given to the company Viuda de Sainz for its Harri Green initiative, which has a new advanced plant for the treatment and valuation of construction and demolition waste. José Manuel Baraibar, R&D&I Director, attended the event to collect his award.
Finally, the Bilbao Bizkaia Water Consortium presented the Bihotzez award, for institutional initiatives beneficial to the 2030 Agenda, the environment or sustainable development, to the Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu.
