- The European Life Brewery project, coordinated by AZTI, has developed a circular economy solution that makes it possible to reuse by-products from the brewing industry (around 7 million tonnes of bagasse and 1 million tonnes of yeast) as ingredients to make aquaculture feed.
- The initiative represents a firm commitment to waste recovery, a boost to the circular economy and a step forward in improving the sustainability of the brewing and aquaculture sectors.
- The ingredients obtained are highly competitive in the human consumption and aquaculture market due to their high quality protein content and the presence of functional biomolecules.
- The project, which began in 2017 and whose research has just been completed, has been funded by the European Union’s LIFE programme.
