As part of the fourth edition of Food4Future, the leading event in innovation for the food industry to be held from 16 to 18 April at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre (BEC), AZTI, the technology centre specialising in the marine and food value chain and co-organiser of this important event, will be holding a wide range of talks and round tables aimed at redefining the future of the agri-food sector through innovation, customisation and sustainability.

Highlighted participation in the congress programme

16 april

On 16 April, David Villanueva will lead the discussion on “Personalisation, customisation and environmental efficiency as drivers of innovation in beverages” from 12:00 to 13:00, highlighting how market trends and consumer insights can be used to offer personalised experiences in the field of beverages.

Simultaneously, in the AZTI Auditorium, Itziar Tueros, coordinator of the Food and Health area at AZTI will offer insights on “Innovation in optimal protein combinationsfrom 12:00 to 13:00, focusing on the transition towards more sustainable diets and the evaluation of alternative and conventional ingredients from a nutritional and technological perspective.

In addition, food sustainability expert David San Martin will lead the discussion on “360º Sustainability: Innovation, collaboration and efficiencyfrom 13:00 to 14:00 in the Main Auditorium, highlighting the importance of cross-cutting strategies and innovation in promoting a sustainable future.

Novel foods researcher Clara Talens will present “Strategies and approaches to innovate in meat products” on the same day from 17:30 to 18:15, exploring feeding and formulation strategies to improve the quality and safety of meat, as well as its acceptance among consumers.

On 17 April, Xabier Lekunberri, AZTI’s expert in sustainable fisheries management, will provide his expertise in “Smart fishing: AI Generative from 11:00 to 12:00, presenting how artificial intelligence is revolutionising the fishing industry towards more sustainable and efficient practices.

Food safety and sustainability will be at the centre of the session “Food safety and security in a changing world” with the participation of AZTI food safety specialist Hugo Cunha, from 15:30 to 16:30, addressing the challenges and opportunities in the global food landscape to ensure food safety.

Among the highlights of the AZTI programme that day is the participation of Leire Arantzamendi, an expert in aquaculture, in the session “European agri-food and algae“, scheduled for 17 April from 16:30 to 17:30. This round table will address the current opportunities and challenges to boost the integration of algae-based products and services in the European food industry.

AZTI’s Food Market Manager, Carolina Najar, will moderate “The empowered consumer focuses on trends and functional foods” on 18 Apr. from 13:30 to 14:00 in the Main Auditorium, offering a strategic perspective on the latest trends shaping the functional food market, including innovation in ingredients, nutritional benefits and wellness-focused brands.

Innovative Solutions at “Arena Solutions”


At “Arena Solutions”, AZTI will showcase the leadership and innovation that characterise it within the food industry. Xavier Murgui, a specialist in technologies for the food sector, will present AZPilotManager, a pioneering software designed to optimise the management of R&D tests in food pilot plants, showing how this tool can revolutionise efficiency and productivity in the development of new products. Food sustainability expert Maite Cidad will introduce Envirodigital, an environmental management solution (SaaS) specially designed for the food sector. This software stands out for facilitating food companies’ path towards greater sustainability, allowing them to monitor and improve their environmental impact efficiently and effectively.
