Infographic on diadromous species in Europe
Downloadable infographic created by Fernando G. Baptista as part of the DIADES project.
Diadromous fish spend their life cycle between the sea, estuaries and rivers. There are eleven species in the north-east Atlantic, which provide various ecosystem services to human communities. Learning more about their importance to regional economies and society’s well-being is a major step towards better management of these species, many of which are threatened.
How much benefit and social value do diadromous fish provide? What provisioning services do they provide? What about regulating services? What is the status of each species according to the European Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)?
All this information is available in this downloadable infographic produced as part of the Interreg Atlantic Area’s DiadES project which, among other actions, carried out innovative research to assess the monetary value of the ecosystem services associated with these fish in five countries and seven river basins.
