Leire Garate is a post-doc researcher in AZTI since 2020. She obtained her PhD from the University of Barcelona in 2017, and she has experience in marine biodiversity and microbial ecology. Her research focuses in the study the microbial communities in coastal and estuarine ecosystems from the Bay of Biscay, using molecular techniques such as environmental DNA metabarcoding. This research will help on better understanding the functioning of these microbial communities and monitoring the impact of contamination and climate change.
