Herrera Kaia, Portualdea z/g, 20110 Pasaia, Gipuzkoa

Leire Garate is a researcher in AZTI since 2023. She obtained her PhD from the University of Barcelona in 2017, after what she worked as post-doc in The Netherlands for two years. She has experience in marine biodiversity and microbial ecology. Her research focuses in the study the microbial communities in coastal and estuarine ecosystems from the Cantabrian Sea, using molecular techniques such as environmental DNA metabarcoding and metagenomics. This research will help on better understanding the functioning of these microbial communities and monitoring the impact of contamination and climate change.
