PhD in Biology by the University of Navarra (Spain) and Maîtrise de Sciences de l´Environnement, Section Océanologie by the University of Bordeaux (France). Juan started his carrier as marine biologist in 1997 in the Marine Research Division of AZTI (Spain). Currently he is a principal researcher and Head of the of the Marine and Coastal Environmental Management Unit in AZTI. He has worked in the development of indicators for ICZM and European Directives and marine protection; marine and estuarine monitoring, pollution and water quality, environmental impact assessment (EIA), shellfish resource management and ecological modelisation
