IKERBASQUE Research Professor Research field: Biological oceanography, plankton ecology, physics-plankton-fish interactions.

Since 1994 successively worked in “Instituto de Ciencias del Mar” (CSIC, Barcelona), “Plymouth Marine Laboratory” (NERC, Plymouth) and “Southampton Oceanography Center” (NERC, Southampton) and AZTI from 2002 to 2011 before joining King Abdullah University for Science and Technology (KAUST) in 2011.

Head of the Biological Oceanography & living resources section in the Marine Research Division of AZTI foundation from 2004 to 2011. Director of the Red Sea Research Center in KAUST from 2011 to 2016. IKERBASQUE Research Professor and Scientific Director at AZTI from 2016 to 2022. Founding Director of the Ocean Science and Solutions Applied Research Institute (OSSARI) at NEOM from 2022 to 2024.

IKERBASQUE Research Professor at AZTI. Editorial board of Scientific Data Member, past member of the editorial council of Journal Plankton Research and associate editor in Marine Biology.

Teaching: Courses in 3 graduate programs (UPV-EHU, UCA, KAUST), Supervised 1 master student, 13 PhD students.
