Last Friday, March 24, the first expert panel of the LIFE VERTALIM project was held at the Berriatua City Hall.

Among the stakeholders, there were entities responsible for sanitation services, consultancies and specialized environmental engineering, as well as other fish industries. All the entities showed a very participative and active attitude with interesting contributionsiwhich will be considered for the development of the Project.

At the meeting, the project partners presented to the agents the problem and the solution approach of the project:

  • Minimization of discharges at origin in fish canneries (Monica Gutierrez, AZTI).
  • Implementation of the GSM remote control in the sanitation network and industrial discharges (Alberto Ciriza, CABB).
  • Simulation and modelling for the sewerage control (Luis Sancho, Ceit-Ik4).
  • System demonstration for the integrated management of discharges in the sanitation network of the Bajo Artibai basin, managed by the CABB (Ondarroa) (Alberto Ciriza, CABB).

The main objective of the project is to solve the problems generated by the discharges of small food companies located in the same area by monitoring and integrating these discharges into the urban sanitation system with the support of all interested entities.

The consortium of this project is formed by Consorcio de Aguas De Bilbao-Bizkaia (CABB), as coordinator, AZTI, Ceit-IK4, and with the collaboration of four small size fish canning companies: Aguirreoa, Marmar, Heisa and Goenaga
