When a researcher enters the list of the world’s most cited scientists (Highly Cited Researchers), it is a clear example that the rest of his peers consider him to be a reference in his fields of work. Therefore, it is very gratifying for AZTI to know that Ángel Borja, AZTI’s expert in Environmental Management of Seas and Coasts, repeats in this exclusive group.
Since 2002, Clarivate has released an annual Web of Science list of researchers who have demonstrated compelling and broad influence across various disciplines. Comprising nearly 7,000 researchers from around the world, the list is compiled by the Institute for Scientific Information at Clarivate based on quantitative and qualitative data collected from scholarly publication of papers that ranked in the top 1% by peer citations during the previous decade. Clarivate is an international analytics firm that specializes in academia, scientific research and intellectual property.
On the other hand, in the Elsevier list (SCOPUS), as in the last two years, both Ángel Borja and Xabier Irigoien, scientific director of AZTI, appear among the most cited in his field of research for his entire career: marine biology.
Because we believe that the answer lies in science, we also believe that we must have (and we do have) the best researchers: the results are always the fruit of collective effort and knowledge. Our presence on these lists shows us that we are on the right track.
