SIMUL is a device developed by AZTI and SILECMAR that monitors the real-time energy consumption of fishing vessels, helping to identify inefficiencies, reduce operating costs and minimise the environmental impact of fishing activities.
SIMUL enables energy consumption to be recorded and analysed during vessel operations, providing a precise view of how, when and where energy is used. Based on these data, it is possible to assess different navigation and fishing strategies, estimate potential savings, and plan decarbonisation measures tailored to each vessel or fleet.
It addresses the need of the small-scale artisanal fishing sector to access real-time consumption data at an affordable cost—essential for designing efficiency plans and meeting energy transition objectives in this sector.
Installs sensors and onboard data acquisition systems.
Records and transmits information on fuel consumption and operational variables.
Enables real-time and historical analysis of energy performance.
Facilitates assessment of different navigation and fishing strategies to reduce energy use.
Immediate identification of critical consumption hotspots.
Reduced emissions and operating costs.
An objective basis for designing energy efficiency strategies.
Supports compliance and adaptation to decarbonisation requirements.
