Kaindar is the first port smart grid in the Basque Country, designed to supply renewable energy to electric vessels through cold ironing technology, reducing emissions and fostering the energy transition in the maritime sector.
Kaindar is a prototype charging station for electric vessels that integrates renewable energy technologies and intelligent energy management systems (smart grid). It enables ships to connect to the port’s electricity network while berthed, avoiding the use of auxiliary engines and therefore reducing fossil fuel consumption.
