PhD in Marine Sciences from the University of Vigo. Principal Researcher at AZTI’s Marine Research Unit. He has more than 15 years of professional experience in different lines of marine research applied to Integrated Coastal Zone Management. His main research interests include: Marine Spatial Planning, assessment and mapping of marine and coastal ecosystem services, implementation of the European Marine Strategy Directive; as well as seabed mapping and characterisation, modelling of benthic habitats. Principal Investigator of more than 30 projects. Leader in AZTI of three European projects and coordinator of case studies in the Basque Country. Author of more than 43 publications, including 33 scientific articles in international scientific journals and 6 book chapters. h` index 19 (source: Scopus), with 1395 citations. Research Gate index 32.39 (https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Ibon_Galparsoro). I am on the editorial board of the journal Frontiers in Marine Ecosystem Ecology. I have made more than 34 oral presentations at international conferences. I have participated in several invited lectures in courses, conferences and seminars. I participate as a lecturer in several Postgraduate Masters (University of the Basque Country; University of Navarra). I participate as an expert in working groups of international organisations (ICES).
