AZTI supports public authorities in the preparation and development of Maritime Spatial Plans (MSPs), providing scientific data, spatial analyses and ecosystem-based management methodologies that ensure coherence between economic uses, environmental protection and European regulatory commitments.
Maritime Spatial Plans (MSPs) are a regulatory requirement under the EU Maritime Spatial Planning Directive and are essential for organising activities such as renewable energy, fisheries, maritime transport, tourism and conservation. Their development requires the integration of multiple sources of information, the reconciliation of sectoral interests, and the assurance of long-term sustainability. Without specialised technical support, public authorities may face delays, use conflicts or legal non-compliance.
