Simulation of management scenarios and economic and social impacts

Problem addressed

Management decisions involve uncertainty and often create tensions between ecological sustainability and economic viability. Without simulation tools, it is difficult to anticipate the consequences of measures and clearly communicate potential trade-offs to stakeholders.

What we do and how we do it

• We apply integrated models such as FLBEIA (a bioeconomic simulator developed by AZTI) and tools such as INFOTACS or fisheries Input–Output Tables (IOT).
• These models combine biological, catch, effort, price, cost, and environmental data to analyse how different measures (e.g. effort reductions, changes in minimum sizes, new regulations) affect biomass, fleet revenues, and employment.
• Results are delivered through reports, presentations, and decision-support platforms for managers and public authorities.
