FISHEALTH

Network of excellence applied to the innovation and development of solutions for the control of infectious diseases in aquaculture production.

TerritoryNational
Funder:State Public Agency
Duration2021-2024
StatusCompleted

Main objective

The network FISHEALTH project aims to develop new tools and integrated platforms for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases in aquaculture and to strengthen the competitiveness of the aquaculture sector, through a process of R+D+i transfer to reduce the impact of these pathologies in Spanish aquaculture.

Training and transfer for competitive and sustainable aquaculture production

The centres of the FISHEALTH network will contribute, according to their specialities, in a coordinated and complementary way to the improvement of the scientific-technical quality of all of them and, in turn, to train them in the emerging needs of the aquaculture business sector.

In addition, FISHEALTH seeks to create an ecosystem for transferring knowledge, technology, technological surveillance and dissemination of new possibilities for combating the main infectious diseases in aquaculture to companies.

FISHEALTH will seek to anticipate the needs of producers and potential biological threats to ensure resilience in the food chain. The aim is to enable the Cervera Network of Excellence to generate feasible solutions for the industrial sector to ensure competitive and sustainable production, with a real impact on the market and, above all, with an impact on animal welfare.

Priority technology

Infectious and parasitic disease control in livestock and aquaculture production: the development of compounds with prophylactic and/or therapeutic activity useful in the control – prevention, diagnosis and treatment – of diseases of bacterial, viral, fungal or parasitic origin affecting animals on livestock farms is promoted.
