Sustainable fishery management

The fishing sector faces the challenge of ensuring the responsible exploitation of marine resources, preserving biodiversity and securing the economic viability of its activity in a context of climate change, new regulations and increasing social demands.

At AZTI, we work hand in hand with public authorities, the scientific community and the industry to develop solutions that enable knowledge-based, integrated and context-specific fisheries management.

Fishery resource assessment

We generate robust, validated information to support the sustainable management of marine resources.

Mitigation of the impact of fishing on marine biodiversity

We develop and implement solutions to minimise incidental catches and impacts on vulnerable species and habitats.

Marine governance

We transfer scientific knowledge to support the development of effective, integrated fisheries policies.

Our services

Marine Autonomous Systems (MAS)

Marine Autonomous Systems (MAS)

From Pasaia Ocean Autonomy (POA) AZTI operates a fleet of unmanned vehicles —gliders, Itsasdrone and Ranger— designed for remote exploration and environmental monitoring in areas that are difficult to access. These systems allow work to be carried out both on the surface and in the water column, in coastal and oceanic environments, greatly expanding marine observation capabilities with high efficiency and autonomy.

Oceanographic ships and craft

Oceanographic ships and craft

AZTI has its own and partner fleets to support oceanographic and fishery research, combining its own resources with the support of specialist companies and public institutions. This capacity ensures that scientific campaigns can be carried out at sea and in coastal areas with the highest technical and safety levels.
