Observation and impact of climate change

Scientific assessment of the current state of the marine environment in the face of climate change, with focus on coastal areas, fisheries, and marine ecosystems.

Solutions

We generate applied knowledge to understand how the ocean and its ecosystems are changing and how these changes affect key sectors. Through advanced observation and physical-biogeochemical analysis, as well as impact assessment, we provide critical data to support sustainable management and climate adaptation.

Changes in biodiversity and oceanographic processes Impact assessment in fisheries Coastal climate-change monitoring

Changes in biodiversity and oceanographic processes

Studies on critical habitats, extreme events, and changes in oceanographic regimes.

Impact assessment in fisheries

Analysis of how climate change affects fish stocks and marine productivity.

Coastal climate-change monitoring

Continuous monitoring of physical and biological variables in the Bay of Biscay and other sensitive areas.

Our services

Solutions to monitor climate change in the marine environment, assess its impacts on ecosystems and resources, and support adaptation to extreme events through observation, modelling, and trend analysis.

Marine Autonomous Systems (MAS)

Marine Autonomous Systems (MAS)

From Pasaia Ocean Autonomy (POA) AZTI operates a fleet of unmanned vehicles —gliders, Itsasdrone and Ranger— designed for remote exploration and environmental monitoring in areas that are difficult to access. These systems allow work to be carried out both on the surface and in the water column, in coastal and oceanic environments, greatly expanding marine observation capabilities with high efficiency and autonomy.

Oceanographic ships and craft

Oceanographic ships and craft

AZTI has its own and partner fleets to support oceanographic and fishery research, combining its own resources with the support of specialist companies and public institutions. This capacity ensures that scientific campaigns can be carried out at sea and in coastal areas with the highest technical and safety levels.
