Oceanographic ships and craft

AZTI has its own and partner fleets to support oceanographic and fishery research, combining its own resources with the support of specialist companies and public institutions. This capacity ensures that scientific campaigns can be carried out at sea and in coastal areas with the highest technical and safety levels.

barcos-embarcaciones-oceanograficos-Ramon-Margalef

Ortze oceanographic vessel (19 m)

Owned by the Basque government, this is equipped with a hybrid nevigation system, as well as wet and dry laboratories for on-board analysis. It is used in sampling campaigns with specialised probes and satellite navigation.

Buque oceanográfico Ortze

AZTIBAT craft (8.4 m)

This is equipped with a multibeam echo sounder, seabed mapping systems and diving equipment, making it a versatile tool for studies in coastal waters.

Embarcación AZTIBAT

Inflatable craft (5.5 m & 7.5 m)

These are used for ancillary tasks in open water and hard-to-reach coastal areas.

Collaboration and external support

AZTI expands its operational capacity through partnerships with companies such as EKOCEAN, KOTAZERO and SOS, as well as public institutions such as the General Secretariat for Fisheries and the IEO-CSIC, which provide vessels and technical support for scientific and technical campaigns.

Staff and technical team

The fleet is complemented by a specialised staff comprising researchers, skippers and professional divers, together with a wide range of oceanographic instrumentation: CTDs, ADCPs, dredges, current meters, drift buoys, probes, nets and other essential equipment for observation and sampling in the marine environment.
