Content: This issue contains a summary of the presentations given at the 11th International Symposium on the Oceanography of the Bay of Biscay, which took place from 1 to 4 April 2008 at the Kursaal and the Aquarium in San Sebastián. This conference was organised by AZTI-Tecnalia and the Aquarium, in collaboration with the Basque Government’s Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and the Department of the Environment and Territorial Planning. More than 180 researchers from laboratories located along the coasts of the Bay of Biscay (Portugal, France, Spain and Great Britain) took part in this event, presenting 150 papers on the latest advances in oceanographic research in this area. These presentations – 52 oral and 98 poster presentations – were divided into several sessions: marine chemistry, pollution, geology, benthic communities, plankton, marine dynamics, physical oceanography, fisheries and integrated marine environmental management.
