Biotechnology for food, health and the blue bioeconomy
Nutrition and health
From biological data to personalised health solutions
We integrate omics technologies, biomarkers, microbiome analysis, human intervention studies, artificial intelligence and data science to understand individual variability in response to diet and develop evidence-based personalised nutrition and health solutions.
CAPABILITIES
- Precision nutrition
- Omics and biomarkers
- Microbiome research
- Human intervention studies for nutritional solutions
- AI- and data-driven health and nutrition
Food and industrial biotechnology
From microorganisms to scalable solutions
We work with microorganisms, fermentation and bioprocesses to develop ingredients, functional compounds and biocontrol solutions for industrial applications, from biological selection and characterisation through to optimisation, validation and scale-up.
CAPABILITIES
- By-product valorisation and circularity
- Microbial solutions and phages
- Fermentation and bioprocesses
- Functional ingredients
- Bioactivity and food safety
- Scale-up and industrial validation
Blue bioeconomy
Unlocking the potential of marine bioresources
We explore marine biodiversity, microorganisms and underutilised resources as sources of new high-value bioproducts. We combine bioprospecting, omics technologies, microbiology and bioprocesses to identify, characterise, produce and validate new solutions.
CAPABILITIES
- Marine bioproducts (enzymes and glycobiotechnology)
- High-value ingredients and by-product valorisation
- Marine genomics and genetic tools
- Clean environmental bioproducts
Bioprospecting, characterisation, production and validation for applications in food, health and industry
From lab to market
AZTI has biotechnology and molecular biology laboratories, analytical capabilities, processing facilities and pilot-scale facilities to support technological development from the identification of a biological opportunity through to validation and scale-up.
This approach makes it possible to integrate biological characterisation, technological development, experimental validation and industrial expertise within a single process, reducing the gap between proof of concept and a solution ready for market transfer or industrial implementation.
Who do we want to meet at BIOSPAIN?
Do you have a biotechnology challenge?
Tell us what you are working on. We can explore how to develop, validate, scale up or transfer a solution in nutrition and health, food biotechnology or the blue bioeconomy.
