With a MsC in Environmental Agrobiology and a degree in Biology from the University of the Basque Country, Saioa Ramos is working as a researcher in the Sustainability Department of the Food Research Division at AZTI. Her work is focused on performing Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of food products and processes in order to ecodesign new food products. She has been working on the SENSE european Project, which harmonizes a common methodology and develops an easy software – SENSE tool – to measure the environmental and social impact of food SMEs. Moreover she has been participating in diferente LIFE+ initiatives such as CleanFeed or ECOLAC, all of them focused to minimize environmental impact of food value chain. Part of her research is dedicated to complete her doctoral thesis on the evaluation of the environmental impact of food production in collaboration with the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC).

Marta Renteria, researcher at the Efficient and Sustainable Processes area of AZTI. Degree in Biological Sciences, Master in Dairy Technology and Technician in Occupational Risk Prevention. He has worked on projects for industrial fermentation and extraction of valuable components in Gaiker and Biotechnology Research Institute (Montreal, Canada). He has been auditor and trainer of quality systems and hygiene in the food industry, R & D researcher in the development of new dairy products and quality manager in dairy company. Currently involved in research projects in the fields of food products valorisation (pretreatment, recovery treatments, processes, facilities and infrastructure, hygienic design) and occupational risk prevention in the food industries (risk assessment, preventive measures, plans improvement, design of new processes, equipment and workplaces).

She is senior researcher in the AZTI´s Food Research Division, in New Food Area since September 2005. She participates in several projects in the field of innovation in Food Processes by the use of new technologies. Improvement, development, optimization, control and validation of processes in agro-food companies. Co-author in 8 scientific publications and more than 25 contributions to congress (9 of them orals). Co-author in 4 patents.

Experience in animal pathology focused in mastitis, aetiology and possible treatments. Previously worked in Eroski Group in charge of the laboratory of microbiology. Expertise in food control at microbiological level, traditional methods as well as molecular biological methods applied in this field. Knowledge and application of current legislation and assurance of the competence of testing under the certification standard ISO/IEC 17025. He has designed autocontrol risk plans at microbiological level and planification of shelf-life studies.
Currently working as Researcher in the Microbiology area in AZTI.

Frédéric Roux

Frédéric joined AZTI as an investigator in 2018. He obtained his PhD from the Max-Planck society in Germany and has more than 10 years of experience in data mining & analysis, statistics & machine learning, signal processing and complex research instrumentation. He has authored and co-authored more than 10 peer-reviewed papers and has experience in teaching programming, statistics and signal processing. His current work aims at developing novel approaches for efficient personalized nutrition based on cell membrane lipidomics and machine learning.

I received my Ph.D. thesis in Physical Oceanography in June, 2006 (UPC, Barcelona). My PhD research focused on mesoscale eddies in the NW Mediterranean. After 2 postdoctoral years in France (on mesoscale dynamics in the NW Mediterranean and the South Benguela EBUS), I started to work at AZTI. Today, my research focus mainly on the Bay of Biscay shelf-slope circulation and mesoscale activity from in-situ and remote sensing data, and especially on ocean surface currents from HF radar.

Mr. Jon Ruiz, who holds a degree in Biology (University of the Basque Country, Spain) and a master degree in International fisheries management (University of Tromso, Norway), has 11 years of experience in fisheries research. He is responsible of the on-board sampling programs implemented by AZTI on the Basque fleets operating in the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. He has been since 2003 involved in the Data Collection required by the DCF (Data Collection Framework), as well as involve in the development of fisheries data bases and observers training. He is the current chair of the RCM-LP (Regional Coordination Meeting for Large Pelagics). He has participated in several ICES study groups related with sampling programs and fisheries monitoring; WKPICS, SGPIDS & WGRFS. He has contributed over 25 working documents in various RFMOs.
