He holds a PhD in Biology from University of the Basque Country (2002). He has more than 18 years of experience in different lines of marine research applied to fish biology, fisheries modelling, ecosystem modelling and Marine Strategy Framework Directive implementation and collection of data for the analysis of its indicators. Principal Researcher for AZTI in 5 European Research projects, currently is in charge of the ITSASTEKA program survey aiming for the collection of data for 5 of the descriptors of the MSFD, by means of IBTS-like research survey, ROV surveys in hard bottoms and dredges for infaunal analysis. He is author of more than 50 publications, including 12 in international peer-reviewed journals and 5 books or book chapters.
