About 19th ISOBAY
The main goal of this biennial symposium, which reaches its 19th edition, is to present scientific most updated works related to the Bay of Biscay, from the coastal zone to the open sea, and its transitional waters between land and sea (estuaries, lagoons, deltas and rias) where human activities are increasing and produce important pressures resulting in effects on the marine ecosystems.
In this context, a wide range of research topics are undertaken and ISOBAY can therefore be considered as a multidisciplinary symposium to discuss the hot topics being investigated within this bay. Scientific studies may be integrated into one or more of the symposium’s themes, under a broad scope: Physical oceanography; Climate-ocean relations; Geology, erosion, transport and sedimentation; Biogeochemical cycles; Biodiversity, structure and functioning of ecosystems; Fisheries and aquaculture; Anthropogenic effects, quality assessment and ecosystem management; Blue technologies, marine resources and Marine Spatial Planning
This symposium aims at promoting discussions between scientists from different disciplines, producing significant contributions towards an integrated knowledge of the Bay of Biscay, useful to progress in science, but also in solutions for the problems that this bay is facing, helping managers and decision-makers in taking informed decisions for a better management of the bay.
19th ISOBAY is an excellent opportunity to meet and network with many other researchers interested in the study of the Bay of Biscay, both for early career researchers (who are encouraged to submit their most recent findings), as well as for senior scientists. The journal Continental Shelf Research will host a special issue with papers (oral/poster) presented at XIX ISOBAY. The submission will be open from the first day after the end of the symposium.
You will be able to also enjoy the beautiful San Sebastian, the maritime sports and its gastronomy.
#ISOBAY2026
