Training (provided from IfG):
Training will be provided in the acquisition
and processing of data taken by various high-resolution
geo-acoustic methods (shallow seismics, side-scan).
Applying seismo- and sediment-stratigraphy and
dating methods training will be as well on coastal
evolution in different time scales due to natural
and human impacts.
Workload:
The activities are mainly related to marine
aggregate extraction (different extraction methods)
and the impact on the seafloor and the coastline
development. A major parts plays the distribution
of spilled particles in the water column and
the spreading on the seafloor. The candidate
should take part in planning and conducting
cruises related to EUMARSAND subjects. Basic
field sites are located in the Baltic Sea but
parts of the North Sea will be covered as well.
Contribution to EUMARSAND:
- Assessment of material extraction on natural
sediment transport systems
- Assessment of material extraction on coastline
development (erosion / deposition)
- Assessment of spilled material on benthic
organisms
- Assessment of the regeneration of extraction
sites
