Université du Littoral-Côte d'Opale, Dunkerque,
"Coastal Geomorphology and Shoreline Management Unit" (GeoDAL)

Training (provided from GeoDAL):
Training (provided from GeoDAL):
- Acquisition, processing and analysis of hydrodynamic data obtained by various wave- and current-meters
- Differential bathymetry mapping
- Coastline evolution monitoring (orthorectification of aerial imagery and mapping)
The appointed postdoctoral researcher will also be trained by:
- Taking part in on-going research within the Network institutes
- Attending a multi-disciplinary course which will cover all aspects of the project
- Taking part in the common field work project
- Short visits to other Network research institutes, and attending relevant specialized conferences/workshop

Workload:
Research activities will mainly concern the assessment of the impacts of the extraction of marine aggregates on coastal morphodynamics, including evolution of coastline and shoreface (erosion/deposition). Research work will deal with:
- Wave and current measurement in the nearshore/coastal zone at experimental sites. Basic field site is located in the North Sea (Belgian coast), but work will also be carried out in the Baltic sea.
- Measurement of short to medium time-scale shoreline changes at experimental sites
- Measurement of nearshore bathymetry changes (short to medium time-scale): compilation and digitization of existing data, mapping of bathymetry changes, computation of volume change
- Wave refraction modelling over bathymetry prior to and after extraction of marine aggregate.
