Training
(provided by NKUA):
- Evaluation of use and misuse of marine aggregates
in EU - Overview of marine aggregate practice
in EU.
- Evaluation of the coastal sediment budget
including marine aggregate deposits (origin
and re-new ability) and their relationship to
coastline evolution.
- Grain size distribution, as indicator of sediment
transport pathways.
- Near bed resuspension processes induced by
current and wave activity.
- Evaluation of nearshore sediment transport
rates induced by waves in microtidal marine
environment.
- Coastal geomorphological characteristics with
respect to sediment fluxes and nearshore hydrodynamics.
Workload:
Participation in field-data collection within
the framework of the present Programme (Baltic
and North Sea sites) and undertaken data analysis
regarding sea-bed sediments, re-suspension processes,
evaluation of the marine aggregate budgets in
E.U. (desk study) and its relationship to coastline
stability. The candidate will have the opportunity
to get experience in the use of various apparatus
(e.g. current meters, ADCP, sediment-core) participating
in all research / training cruises of EUMARSAND.
He/she will be encouraged to visit all the other
participating laboratories in order to get experience
in laboratory techniques and data-analysis.
The candidate will be able also to participate
in complementary on-going research enhance his/her
experience and expertise in coastal sedimentary
budgets (marine and terrestrial) and their modification
by human interference.
