The Ecosystem Services Partnership (ESP) aims to enhance communication, coordination and cooperation, and to build a strong network of individuals and organizations. ESP enhances and encourages a diversity of approaches, while reducing unnecessary duplication of effort in the conceptualization and application of ecosystem services. By raising the profile of ecosystem services and promoting better practice, the ES-Partnership will also increase o pportunities for financial support and help focus the funding of individual organizations for more efficient utilization of existing funds.
ESP was launched in 2008 by the Gund Institute for Ecological Economics (University of Vermont, USA) and is now being coordinated by the Foundation for Sustainable Development (Wageningen, The Netherlands). ESP is a membership based organisation, both institutional and individual members can subscribe. The Partnership has a specified governance structure and Executive committee.
In 2006 ESP started to organise yearly conferences about ecosystem services. Since 2016 ESP shifted to bi-annual World Conferences with Regional Conferences in the intermediate years. The previous ESP9 World Conference was in Shenzhen, China in 2017.
The ESP Regional Conferences offer an unique opportunity to share experiences with the ecosystem service community within the region. This way, regional networks can be strengthened and local participation is encouraged. In 2018 ESP organises various other Regional Conferences.

The conference program will consist of several parts, which are explained below.
Keynote speakers will highlight the conference theme and provide context for discussion during the conferences.
During break-out sessions various themes related to ecosystem services will be presented. The themes will often, but not exclusively, be related to the ESP Working Groups and National Network. Each session will be led by one or various hosts. Within most sessions there will be ample time for presentations related to the sessions’ theme. The Call for Sessions is open until 18 February. The Call for Abstracts will open shortly after.
Next to the break-out sessions a poster sessions will be organised. Abstract for posters can also be submitted once the Call for Abstracts has opened.
To improve the science-policy-business nexus, we plan to organise a business track. We encourage business delegates to present a business case to the audience within this track, so participants can learn from the challenges in practice and share their knowledge in order to solve the presented challenge. More information regarding this track will follow soon. If you have a case you would like to present, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Moreover, a market place will be present at one of the days at which organisations can present their work.
Networking is an important aspect of conference participation. Several side-events, like a welcome reception, conference dinner and field trips, will be organised for this purpose. These will be enable you to get to know other delegates, and to enjoy and learn from the beautiful and interesting surroundings of San Sebastián!
