Technology at the service of efficient and safe fishing
The performance scope is researched by means of projects related with extractive fishing activity that provide answers to the technological development needs of this sector and guarantees competitive, safe and sustainable fishing activities.
- Innovation of tackle and fishing efficiency: Research into the behaviour of species, towards the fishing tackle. Prototypes of fishing tackle and fishing equipment. Detection and attraction systems (acoustic, artificial bait, etc). Design of fishing tackle, by means of modelling visual and acoustic monitoring. Safety and comfort systems on-board fishing vessels. Application of IT, for fishing efficiency.
- Development of new technologies in marine monitoring: Development of unmanned aerial platforms (UAVs), in close collaboration with other technological centres and companies. Instrumented buoys aimed at evaluating the marine environment. Sensors for in situ pollutant measurements. Specific markers for the study of marine species (TAGs). Software for data processing and user-interface.
- Innovation in aquatic technologies: Telemonitoring equipment of aquaculture installations, by means of acoustic and optical technology. Technology for the production of fry in hatchery. Improvement of aquatic cultures in cages in the open sea.
- Technological transfer of fishing tackle: Pilot testing of fishing tackle, evaluating selection, profitability, safety and other criteria. Computer simulation of fishing tackle behaviour.
- Remote Sensing: Advanced information for high-probability fishing areas, based upon in-house developed technology (BIZKAISAT–BI ©), for coastal fishing, and CATSAT©, for the fleet of frozen tuna vessels.
- System for information on catches: In-house developed computer software, for the management of catches and of the transmission of ship-shore information.
