In the past few decades, Donostia-San Sebastian has grown, extending on to the hills surrounding the centre of the city and the adjacent fertile lowlands. The older part of the city–both the Old Quarter nestled at the foot of Monte Urgull, as well as the 19th and early 20th century urban enlargement–is not very big and is best enjoyed on foot and with time to spare.
In addition to the city’s acclaimed sights and excellent cuisine, Donostia-San Sebastian offers a number of cultural events and festivals throughout the year: from the traditional winter feast days of Santo Tomás and San Sebastian to the larger scale summer cultural events such as the International Jazz Festival, the Classical Music Fortnight and the International Film Festival.
