About European Cetacean Society

European Cetacean Society

The European Cetacean Society (ECS, established 1987) was first internet-enabled in the pre-web days of 1992. It has been present ever since with mail, mailing lists and this web site:
www.europeancetaceansociety.eu

Aims

  • to promote and co-ordinate the scientific study and conservation of cetaceans.
  • to gather and disseminate information to members and the general public

First of all the society, the ECS, provides - without any doubt - its members with the best network in marine mammology available in Europe. No serious research can be done without access to the best scientists and the most promising research programmes. Here those people and their students meet, both through the mailing lists and at the annual conference. You should meet them, at least once in your life. You might miss the chance of a lifetime.

Conferences are the major and most successful accomplishment of the ECS. The annual conference, which is held alternately in southern and northern Europe, provides an excellent networking opportunity for researchers and students alike. Each year again an organisation, a university or research institute (or some together) sets up an event that is not to be forgotten. Researchers find each other and students, students find researchers. All of them find news, news on results, news on how to interpret or execute research, news on funding and news on political developments.
